**The LORD Lift Up His Countenance**

**Numbers 6:26**

“The LORD lift up His countenance on you, And give you peace.”

The verses in Numbers 6:24-26 provide significant spiritual benefits. They are not just “nice” words the LORD sends our way. They were meaningful to the Hebrews then and to Christians now.

But what about that word, “countenance”? What does that mean, and what does it hold for us?

God’s face turned toward you – It expresses personal attention. God is not distant; He is looking directly at the individual.

  • Favor and approval – In ancient thought, when a king “lifted up his face” toward someone, it meant acceptance and goodwill.

  • Relational closeness – It implies fellowship, not just observation.

  • Peace flowing from God’s presence – The result of His countenance being lifted is peace (shalom), meaning wholeness, well-being, and harmony.

Even though it was given to the children of Israel, our Father affords the same blessings to us, His children of this age.

The Hebrews were His accepted people; today, when people submit to God’s plan of salvation, they are accepted into His family and receive overflowing blessings.

Of course, the Lord turns His face away from sinners.

Isaiah 59:2

“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.”

Certainly, we want our God to lift His countenance upon each of us. That peace means the absence of enmity between Him and us. I know which I want - I don’t want to be on the receiving end of Isaiah 59:2. I want a soul-moving relationship with my Father, You?

Numbers 6:24-26 builds, ending with God’s peace. There’s no peace without Jesus in our lives.

  • “Bless you and keep you” — God’s provision and protection

  • “Shine His face upon you” — His presence and favor

  • “Be gracious to you” — His undeserved kindness

  • “Lift up His face toward you” — His personal attention and care

  • “Give you peace” — deep wholeness, not just absence of trouble

When you sleep, you do so in His love for you. When you awaken, you do so in His love for you. You are His, and you are immensely loved all day long.

Blessings, friend!
