Superciliousness (Haughty, Disdainful, Arrogant) Is Ungodly1 John 2:16

“For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.”

———

We get sermons about the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes. I don’t know that we get too many sermons on that last part of the verse, the “pride of life.” It’s from the world, you know. It’s not from God. Paul says earthly things are considered trash (Philippians 3:8). Since our pride is of this world, we should consider it trash as well.

No one gets to heaven with an arrogant attitude. For sure, to be a Christian means we do away with our prideful self and replace it with Jesus-self.

———

If heaven is our goal, then we must be filled with the nature of Jesus. I can tell you this is one of the hardest things to do - replacing arrogance, that is.

He is our life, every day and forevermore.
