What If I Don’t Make It To Heaven?

There is no question more important than this one: "What if I don't make it to heaven?" Every person will one day stand before God, and eternity will never end. The decisions you make about Christ today will determine where you spend forever. Don't let distractions, good intentions, or false confidence keep you from the salvation God has graciously provided. Examine yourself honestly, obey the gospel faithfully, and make your calling and election sure while there is still time.

What If I Don't Make It to Heaven?

Scripture: "Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves." — 2 Corinthians 13:5 (ESV)

Have you ever quietly asked yourself, "What if I don't make it to heaven?" It is not a pleasant thought, but it is an important one.

Many people spend far more time preparing for retirement than they do preparing for eternity. We plan vacations, careers, and finances, yet the greatest destination we will ever face is the one that comes after this life. The Bible reminds us, "It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). That reality should move each of us to examine our relationship with God honestly.

Jesus spoke often about eternity, and His words were both comforting and challenging. He promised eternal life to those who follow Him, but He also warned that not everyone who claims to know Him will enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 7:21–23). These warnings were not given to drive us to despair but to lead us to sincere faith and faithful obedience.

If the thought of missing heaven troubles you, don't ignore it. Let it draw you closer to Christ. Ask yourself: Am I trusting in Jesus? Am I obeying His Word? Am I living faithfully each day? The Lord has not left us to wonder what He desires. Through His Word, He has shown us the way of salvation and calls us to walk in it with confidence and humility.

The wonderful news of the gospel is that God wants you to be saved. He "desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4). Christ gave His life so that you could have eternal life. His grace is greater than your past, and His promises are sure for those who remain faithful to Him.

Rather than asking, "What if I don't make it to heaven?" let that question become the motivation to seek God with all your heart today. Eternity is too important to leave to chance, assumption, or good intentions. Make your calling and election sure by walking daily with the Lord.

A Moment to Reflect

Heaven is not guaranteed by wishful thinking, family tradition, or religious activity. It is the gift God has promised to those who love Christ, trust Him, and faithfully follow His will. Today is an opportunity to draw near to Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to prepare a place for those who belong to You. Help me to examine my life honestly and to follow Your Son with faith, humility, and perseverance. Strengthen me to remain faithful until the end, so that I may one day hear the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." In Jesus' name, Amen.

I'd love to hear from you.
